I have a 2004 Power Mac G5, with 2 2GHz processors (not dual core, 2 separate processors), 4 GB RAM - expandable to 32GB RAM. It has been a great workhorse for 10 years. It is still a great machine, more than adequate for most of my tasks, but it has become a dead-end machine. I can no longer update the OS, iTunes, and many other applications.
I cannot afford to replace it with another Apple product any time soon, so I am in the process of moving everything from it to a PC. I would like to convert the Power Mac G5 to a Linux File Server, if that is practical. If I am trying to whip a dead horse here, then I would like to know that, as well, before I spend any time on the Linux conversion. Otherwise, I would like to receive some advice on what Linux distribution would be best for this application. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.
